A coring tool is a metal device which pushed into melted propellant just before it sets. It creates the a hole through the centre of the propellant to increase the surface area of the propellant. Propellants with this hole down the middle are called centre-burning. A metal rod such as the end of screwdriver can be used as a coring tool.
