Hondo II 5150 Les Paul Copy
This is my Hondo II guitar. As info on old Hondo guitars is not readily available on the net, I have put up this page to help fill the gap.
Age: ??, probably after 1986 (Van Halen's album "5150" was released that year). 5150 could refer to something else. If you know, drop me a line at alidoggz@hotmail.com.
Body: made up of about 24 layers of ply-wood. A very heavy guitar, and certainly does not feel cheap. Bolt on neck, 22 frets with mother-of-pearl inlay.
Hardware: Pickups are not DiMarzio as some Hondos have had. They do the job though. Pots and selector switch are cheap, as are the tuners. The Tune-o-Matic bridge works well. The knobs are interesting, transparent plastic, with the numbers printed on the base so that you view them from the top or side through the plastic.
Price: $250 NZ in 2004 (about $180 US)
Model number H740RS
For the price this is a very good guitar. The pickups have a nice sound and the potential for re-kitting this baby with decent hardware is there.
